Old School Hip Hop Sundays – Dre Style

September 14, 2008

The 1992 release of The Chronic established the g funk sub-genre within gangsta rap. G funk has slower beats with samples from ’70s/’80s funk, a more mellow delivery (especially compared to NWA and PE), and uses synthesizers, keyboards, or guitars.

Along with bringing gangsta rap to suburbia, The Chronic featured notables of West Coast rap including, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and Warren G, prior to their current fame. There’s no denying the influence and greatness of Dre’s first album.

Enjoy the following vids/mp3s from the album.
