Battle at Kruger

May 10, 2008

Apparently I’ve been living under a rock because until today I had completely slept on the sensation that is the Battle at Kruger. Shot in Kruger National Park in South Africa, the amateur wildlife video captures a battle that unfolds amongst a pride of lions, a couple crocodiles and a herd of buffalo. The video begins with the lions charging on the herd and attacking a young buffalo. Unintentionally knocking the animal into the water, the lions fight to keep their kill from a pair of crocodiles. Ultimately victorious, the lions bring the buffalo back to shore, only to face the entire herd, which has coalesced to kick some serious feline ass. You really have to see it to believe it and might just find yourself rooting out loud for the buffalo soldiers (sorry). Or maybe that’s just me.

The video was the subject of an article in Time magazine last year and was featured on ABC News. Tomorrow a documentary about the video will air on National Geographic.
